Course Overview

The Web Design Program is a challenging two-year course examining and applying concepts in the design and management of websites. Some of the topics covered include:
  • Proper design concepts applied to web, print, and video applications
  • Use of web development tools such as Adobe's Dreamweaver, Photoshop and a variety of code editors
  • Skills development in HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript and Responsive Web Design
  • Development of multimedia applications
  • The "business" of e-commerce
  • "Behind the scenes" of the Internet-- networking concepts
  • Workplace Readniess Skills training
  • Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club activities
  • Preparation for industry certifications
Certifications

1st Year-Web Design Foundations

Preparing students for the rapidly expanding opportunities in web design and development is the focus of this program. Students will learn and apply proper design principles while developing solid coding skills in web technologies such as, HTML 5, JavaScript, and CSS3. They will learn to create, manipulate and optimize images and multimedia content for the web. Students use industry standard web design software from the Adobe Creative Cloud suite. Qualified students will be eligible to sit for industry recognized certifiation exams from CIW, Adobe, and Microsoft.

2nd Year- Advanced Web Design

Prerequisite: Web Design Foundations (AT6630) or verified skills in HTML and CSS coding and experience with web editing tools such as Dreamweaver or Microsoft ExpressionWeb

Students in this advanced web design course will apply strong knowledge of current web technologies in a variety of design projects. The focus is more advanced web design technologies and Responsive Web Design. Using the virtual Enterprise model of learning, students will start a simulated web design business within the classroom. While continuing to develop strong technical skills, the students provide web design services to potentially hundreds of "virtual" businesses around the world. Students will leverage their technical skills to provide website for various client needs and devices including browsers, various mobile platforms and tablets. This unique approach enables not only the application of students' skills in a real world environment, but it also develops an excellent foundation in project management and customer relationship skills. Industry leading software from Adobe and Microsoft is used throughout the course. Students will prepare for industry recognized advanced certifications from CIW, Adobe, and Microsoft
